Wind Power

Below are pictures of my Windmill as I assembled and erected it.

This windmill is home made based on a design by Hugh Piggott.
It has a 10 foot blade span and produces 1000 watts in a moderate wind.

 Going Up!
The windmill is on a 70 ft tall tower that has 3
sets of guy wires. It is a tilt up tower so we
are able to lower the windmill for service instead of
climbing the tower. Much safer!

Everything needs to be securely anchored so we have no worries
about the windmill coming down during a storm or strong wind.

I have about 20 hours in assembling the turbine part of the windmill.
I bought the blades pre-carved and that did save some time. It took about
2 days to construct the tower between welding, assembly, and the actual
raising of the completed structure.

Wind power has always intrigued me because it seems like something so useful.
So far it has been pretty productive. It fills in a lot of the voids the sun leaves in
the winter which means that I run the generator less. Definately a worth while decision.
